Today sees the public debut of the Bentley Continental GT V8 ( and GTC V8) at Detroit, and the reveal of UK prices - £123,850 for the GT V8 & £136,250 for the GTC V8. We got the reveal of the new Bentley Continental GT V8 – and the Continental GTC V8 – last month, ahead of its public unveiling at the Detroit Motor Show today. We also got the leak of some German prices for the Continental GT V8 just after Christmas, which we reckoned meant the UK GT V8 would start around £115k.
Volkswagen is currently showcasing three of its vehicle and technology concepts created under the ‘People's Car Project' at this year's Beijing auto show. The Hover Car, the Music Car and the Smart Key concepts – created by users of the website, which has seen 33 million visitors – are just three of more than 119,00 ideas submitted, leading the project to be indefinitely extended as Volkswagen uses the findings to influence its future design strategy. The organisers of the Le Mans 24-hour have announced a raft of radical new rules on the eve of the 2012 race - including the less restricted use of hybrid power for the top-flight LMP1 racers from 2014. The governing ACO (Automobile Club de l'Ouest) unveiled the major changes due in two years' time as the teams start the 80th 24 Heures du Mans event which runs from Saturday 16 - Sunday 17 June 2012. In order to stay in tune with our environmentally-conscious, economically-chastened times, the focus of the alterations is to improve the efficiency of the elite LMP1 cars' technology and cement a link with roadgoing hybrids, as well as making the race cars safer.
